Project Description

Results Minneapolis is Minneapolis’ performance measurement and monitoring tool. Within Results Minneapolis, City Goal Results measures how the City is impacting its adopted city goals. This program connects City work and community priorities, as measured by our community indicators, by blending a variety of data sources and analysis from City departments and community stakeholders. The results of this analysis are compiled into powerful, insights-based reports and presented at a roundtable to inform City decision making. The reports are also made public. Minneapolis’ community indicators were developed in an extensive three phase process and establishment of indicator criteria. First, a thorough review of current Minneapolis measures and national best practices led to the development of a draft set. Second, over 1,500 members of the community participated in a community engagement process to help define what success of our city goals looked like to them. Finally, information collected in these first two steps was refined into a set of draft indicators that were discussed and debated with City staff and elected officials.

What framework does this project use if any? We use a set of principles to drive our work more than a specific and standardized framework. This allows us flexibility in meeting the needs of each indicator rather than using a prescriptive method to report on a wide array of data. We have frameworks for every report: Each indicator will be understood through a framework, and that framework will be the basis by which we scope and prioritize the analysis and report. Reports will be analytical and insights driven: We will move beyond reporting what we observe as we observe it. Rather, we will work towards interpretation of patterns that provide a deep intuitive understanding of the issues. Every report will start with key take aways: Because we are interpreting data rather than showing it, every report will start with a single page summarizing the key take aways from the analysis. This helps ensure that we are concise and that the report is consumable. The report will be visual: We will try to convey our data and analysis in a visually appealing and easy to understand way. We will take a cross jurisdictional approach: Because none of our indicators operate in a vacuum, we will acknowledge and include the perspective and data from agencies and organizations outside of our own. We will look at the data in new ways: These reports will look at the whole picture, the City’s leverage points within the issue and what we could or should be doing differently
