Project Description

Massachusetts KIDS COUNT is a project of MassBudget, the Commonwealth’s leading organization analyzing the state budget, taxes, economic development and related policies with an emphasis on their impact on lower income people. Massachusetts KIDS COUNT uses data and analysis to further public understanding of child well-being in the Commonwealth, and to give people the tools to pursue policies that can help kids thrive. KIDS COUNT improves awareness of how Massachusetts fares on child poverty, educational attainment, children’s health insurance rates, and other measures of whether kids have the support they need to build bright futures, with particular emphasis on children from vulnerable circumstances. The initiative’s resources – including the KIDS COUNT Data Center, reports and fact sheets, and online Children’s Budget – provide issue advocates, parents, providers, policymakers, the media and the public with critical information to identify and pursue policy priorities for children. Massachusetts KIDS COUNT also helps shape the public debate and advance children’s priorities by bringing people together across issue silos, with help from leaders on its Advisory Council.
